Share: Great Article on Breaking Up

From The Change Blog

Writer Rachael Ann Mare writes about how a breakup taught her to relax and be herself.  I wanted to share this with you because I think it is a great story.  Although it has a happy ending, sometimes we don't get the girl/guy back.  Because I am going through a breakup, I found this very inspiring at least knowing that I WILL find "me".

I will share a few bits from the article.  You can read Rachael's story directly at: How A Breakup Taught Me To Relax And Be Myself

"..I thought I would be over it, or at least feel okay. I wasn’t, and I didn’t.  I had tried to be friends with him. I had tried to not be friends with him.  I cried a lot either way."

"When we first broke up, I spent an embarrassing amount of time reading Internet articles about how to get your ex back."

"If I wanted him back, most of the books said, I couldn’t let him see how much I hurt. I had to be out there having a great time."

"I had this idea of how I was “supposed” to deal with the breakup “in order to” get him back, and it was killing me.  Instead of actually focusing on me, I let my wanting to control him—to make him come back—get the better of me, and I focused on him and how he was going to respond to what I was doing instead of on my own needs and feelings."

"I remembered all the things about our relationship that didn’t work for me.  I focused on work, on launching my blog and website and doing scads of writing, and I loved it.  I could never do all that while obsessing over his next move.  I stopped needing a relationship and started looking for someone who complemented my life."

Life Changing Phone Calls

Life changing telephone calls happen all of the time and they have such a big impact in our lives that we never really stop to think what life would be like if you never answered the call.

Some examples of historical and infamous calls are:

1. Thomas Edison to Thomas Watson, in 1876 - "Watson, come here, I need you!"
2. Richard Nixon to The Moon, in 1969 - calling Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong as they set foot on the moon.
3. Security guard, Frank Wills to D.C. Police, in 1972 - Reporting suspicious behaviour at the Watergate Complex.

I am sure there have been many more, and some life changing calls in each of our lives, that today we can reflect back on.  Some of mine are:

1.  At five years old, I was watching Pete's Dragon at the movie theater with my Dad, when we got the call that my Grandma had just had her final heart-attack.  I never got to know my Grandma Joanne, but I heard she was a great lady.
2. At 16, I came home from work, after meeting a really cute guy.  I got a call from him and that lead to our marriage, relocation to and from California, our two children and later our divorce.
3. Multiple different calls lead to my finding out of the passing of loved ones, including my Grandma, my Grandpa, my Sister's Mom, both of my ex-in-laws and more.  Sadly, these are not good life changes, but they made a difference in many lives.
4. At 31, being broken up with by a long-distance boyfriend, at 33, finding out by "the other woman" that my new love interest had cheated on me, at 35, announcing to my mom that I was engaged again.
5. At 42, getting a job offer that brought me to a new career that makes me very happy.

These are just some examples of telephone calls that changed my life.  What were some of yours?  Oh, I guess we didn't even address TEXT messages that changed our lives, that will be for another day.

Repost: The VOW

I thought it fitting to repost this review from 2012 since I am watching the movie again, for the second time, years later.  Sadly, life does not seem to follow the movies and the guy does not always fight for the girl....

What a good movie this was!

I had been looking forward to seeing this.  Not only because of the beautiful and great actors in the movie (Racheal McAdams & Channing Tatum) but because it was a love story.  Who DOESN'T love a good romance???

Boy meets girl.  Boy and girl fall in love.  They get married and have many good times and memories.  Boy shows his love for girl through out the movie and makes YOU fall in love with him (not to mention the nude scene - wink/wink).  Boy and girl get in a car accident.  Girl suffers memory loss of her last 5 years of being married to boy.  Next comes all of the laughter, tears, heartbreak, disappointment and so on when the two try to get back what they lost.

I give it a 4.5 stars!!! Go see it with someone you love.

Trending Today: Courteney Cox

I opened Yahoo tonight and looked at what was trending, to get inspiration on what to write about.  Low and behold, a celebrity was on the list (actually, eight of them).  So, I picked one and decided to give you Ten Things You Did Not Know About Courteney Cox (information obtained by Yahoo and Wikipedia):

1. Courteney was born: Courteney Bass Cox (she was named after her Mother whose first name is Courteney and her last name was Bass before she re-married)
2. She owns a production company named: Coquette Productions (I figure this is short for her's and David Arquette's names put together).
3. In 2005, she was one of the highest paid TV actresses of all time.
4. She once dated her Step-Father's nephew, rock promoter, Ian Copeland.
5. Courteney and David separated for two years before finally divorcing in 2013.
6. She is not only an actress, but she is a director and a producer.
7. Her show, DIRT, last for two seasons (this was one of my favorite shows).
8. Courteney is from Alabama.
9. She had plans of becoming an Architect, but dropped her college classes to become and actress and model.
10. She was born in 1964. (she looks amazing for 51)

Topics: Business Tips & What Are My Plans

I thought I would do another post using my list book.  Here are the two pages that I randomly turned to:

From the book, List Yourself (Listmaking as the Way to Self-Discovery), written by Ilene Segalove & Paul Bob Velick:

List your most valued business tips, terms, lessons and weapons:

  • You must stay organized
  • Tell them what you are going to tell them, tell them and then tell them what you told them
  • You don't always have to have an answer.
  • CYA (Cover Your Ass)
  • Document, Document, Document
  • Use post-it notes to remember things
  • Use a day planner
  • Save all voice-mail, just in case
  • If someone plays the stupid card and asks you the same questions you answered before, copy and paste your previous response to show them that you already covered that question.
  • Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine

List the ideas, projects, or jobs that are in your thoughts at the present time (no business talk, just personal):

  • Blog more
  • Do more movie review blogs
  • Organize my room a little better
  • Make more jewelry
  • Go see a past-life reader
  • EXERCISE
  • Eat better
  • Limit alcohol
  • Lose 10 pounds to start, then 40 more
  • Write a book
  • Get out more

Now it's your turn....

August 2015 - Where has the time gone?

It's been awhile....

I know, I have said this before, but I am back, refreshed and ready to do some blogging, so here goes.

From the book, List Yourself (Listmaking as the Way to Self-Discovery), written by Ilene Segalove & Paul Bob Velick:

1. List all of the things in life that give you goosebumps:

  • Hearing a story about someone loosing their life
  • Anything sad having to do with an animal
  • Ghost stories
  • The touch of a lover
  • Eerie coincidences
  • De je vous
  • Feeling that connection you get with someone you are in love with when they smile at you and hold eye contact from across the room
  • A really great end to a date night
2. Suddenly you've arrived on Jupiter, list the things you can't live without:

  •  A book
  • My Ipad
  • A magazine
  • Mexican food
  • Hummus
  • Margaritas
  • Wine
  • Redbull
  • Tooth brush and paste
  • Hair tie
  • Paper and pen

Now it's your turn.  What are your answers to these questions?  If you are brave and would like to contribute, comment below.

Everything is "SUPER"

You use them everyday (unless you are a recluse and you never do any communicating).  You use them to modify a noun (person, place or thing) - YES, I am talking about ADJECTIVES.  These little sentence helpers help to draw attention to our listeners.

It seems that I have an "adjective" of the month, which I don't know how I got stuck on, that is: SUPER.  I find myself using it to describe just about anything I like.  I find myself using this word almost to the degree of being annoying (ever felt like that?).  So, I thought it would be interesting to share some adjectives with you in hopes that YOU TOO can make some attention grabbing sentences :)

Today's word is:

HAPPY:

  1.  Blessed
  2.  Blissful
  3.  Chipper
  4.  Cheerful
  5.  Delighted
  6.  Elated
  7.  Gay
  8.  Jolly
  9.  Merry
  10. Thrilled

The next time someone asks you, "How are you today?" reply with one of these.

Review: A Few Email Subscriptions That I Have

Well, HELLO there!  It's been a little while.....Life, job, kids, family, you've heard all the excuses.

I have been cleaning up my email inbox and realized that I have a lot of subscriptions to websites that I simply am not interested in anymore (I am sure that I can speak for many of us).  I came across several that I really look forward to reading and I thought I would share them with you:

Be Happy  (www.behappy.me) - This website is filled with great, motivational quotes including the one above.  They are laid out in a poster format and are available for purchase if you want to hang them up or you can copy and paste them for free as computer backgrounds, greeting cards, etc.  What I really like is that you can use these as Facebook covers and the website even prepares them for you and all you have to do is connect through Facebook and upload.

This is an example of an email that I received:

To live, love, and be happy, forevermore, Jennifer, just decide to be from this moment forward.

Tallyho,
    The Universe

I receive these cool emails from Mike Dooley by signing up on his website Tut (Letters From The Universe) (www.tut.com).  These "Notes From The Universe" are super cool and really resonate with whatever is going on currently in my life.  Plus, it's neat to feel that the Universe is talking directly to me.  The founder of the website, Mike Dooley, is a philosophical master who founded Adventurers Club on the Internet that's now home to over 500,000 members from over 185 countries.  He writes inspirational books and he is one of the teachers in the international bestseller The Secret.

Who doesn't have Facebook?  If you don't, disregard this information.  However, if you are like me and enjoy telling the world what's going on in your life, sharing pictures with family, catching up with classmates, you will get a kick out of this next share:

Everyday Me  (www.everyday.me)

I love getting emails that remind me what was going on in MY life years ago.  In our busy lives, it's hard to remember, but with this cool app through Itunes, I get a reminder of the posts that I made years ago from my Facebook timeline.

Everyday.me is a smart timeline journal to capture all your life moments, including your activities across the web.
  • Private by default - Collect every thought privately and safely.
  • Never lose anything - Everything is backed up online.
  • Capture the moment - Photos, Videos, Emotions, Tags, Search, and more.
  • Where were you a year ago? Find out with our "Blast from the Past".
Future Me  (www.futureme.org)

I LOVE THIS WEBSITE!!!!  Many years ago I found this and decided to send a letter to my "future" self.  I wrote a letter to be read one year later.  As the months passed, I forgot all about this letter.  To my surprise, one year later, I received an email from myself.  It was a little Erie reading it 365 days later but as I read on, I thought about how cool it was to see how much my life had changed in that year's time.  I decided to this every year after that and have also begun sending these letters to my loved ones so that they too get a message from me.  Who knows, maybe after my time on earth is through, my loved ones will still get to hear from me (I know, a little morbid, but SO cool).

From their website:    "So send your future self some words of inspiration. Or maybe give 'em swift kick in the pants. Or just share some thoughts on where you'll or what you'll be up to in a year, three years...more? And then we'll do some time travel magic and deliver the letter to you. FutureYou, that is."

Well, this wraps up my post.  I hope you explore the various, cool email subscriptions that I enjoy using and I know you will too!

R.I.P. Ben Breedlove

R.I.P. Ben Breedlove

My 14-year old daughter follows many film makers on Youtube.com.  One of her favorites, Ben Breedlove, passed away recently.  My daughter was very sad and his videos went viral after his passing.  I was not familiar with him until I watched his last two videos and when I did, I was touched by this young man's courage.  I am attaching the videos from Youtube.com.

Starting Up Again

So, it's been awhile and I thought that I would spend some more time blogging.  I apologize to my readers for not being more diligent about writing.  Sometimes life throws us curves and it's tough to handle everything on your plate, let alone find motivation to participate in hobbies.

Here goes....

Dusting Off The Cobwebs

Well, I decided to dust off the cobwebs and re-visit my blog and maybe invest a little time. It's funny, since I have been gone, my blog actually had some visitors. So, after taking a little break, I will begin to blog again. I will not get wrapped up in the social networking necessary to have a successful blog, but I will use it the way I see fit and that it is to be creative and share my views and thoughts. Stay tuned....

Question Of The Day

We are going to have a little fun today with a mini-meme. Here goes:

"List one thing that most people don't know about you"

I will start:

When I was nineteen, I was an extra in a movie. I spent a day on the set and was chosen out of hundreds of people to be in 4 scenes. Unfortunately, 2 of the scenes ended up on the cutting room floor. I did not have a speaking part, but it was so much fun. It was later aired on USA cable under a different name than what it was originally slotted for. I got paid a non-SAG wage of about $60 but I would have done it for free. I was able to record the movie from the television and now have it to show my kids, my future grandchildren and anyone who wants to hear my, "I was once famous" story - lol.

Now it's your turn......

Welcome To My Thoughts

Welcome to my blog. I am fairly new to blogging and have spent the last week getting to know the blogging community. I have enjoyed reading various blogs, including Barbara's insight on Blogging Without A Blog, reading about life's lessons on Sara Healy. And I can't forget Jen's wacky antidotes at Absolutely Bananas, or Eric Hamm's informative posts on Motivate Thyself. Over the last week, I feel like I have made some friends if not by talking to them, by reading all of their interesting posts. I would like my blog to have the same effect on YOU!

Thoughts From A Down-To-Earth Girl are snippets of who I am and what I have to say. My blog can be about my opinions on parenting, my family, life's lessons, or tips on how to be organized. Along the way, I will throw in my attempts at humor, with posts like There Are Headless Men In My Car and The White, Construction Hat.

My blog is my creative outlet and I hope you will find it interesting (and maybe even laugh a little). My email address can be found on my profile page if you would like to contact me privately. Thanks for visiting!!!!
